At Tobey Design, we live for the moving, breathing process of design and construction. Because every client and project scope is different, our process is flexible and adaptable. To illustrate a general sense of our workflow, we've outlined our typical process on this page.
phase 1: client meeting
This is where we get to know each other...really well! We start with an initial consultation (either by phone or in person) to discuss your project goals, size, and requirements, as well as answer any questions you have about Tobey Design. Next, we schedule an on-site meeting to see your space and get to know you. We ask many, many questions to understand your lifestyle, design style, and the way you want to use the space. At the end of phase one, we will have a mutual understanding of the project road map, scope, and budgetary requirements to guide the rest of the design process.
phase 2: concept design
We take what we learned about you in phase one to create a mood board, explore preliminary layouts in CAD, and review initial 3D sketches. We also compare a selection of inspiration images. We ask you to select a few images that speak to you, and Tobey Design presents a visual gallery of things we think you’ll love. This phase is all about ensuring we share a common vision of your dream environment that reflects your unique style.
phase 3: design + refine
Now we get down to the nitty gritty! We review plans from the inside out, considering the spatial flow and how architectural elements interact with interior use of the space. We work closely with the entire project team to make any adjustments, then provide detailed CAD floor plans (including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC plans) and elevations, as well as specifications and product schedules. We ensure the budget is closely monitored in real time throughout the project's entirety.
phase 4: procurement + oversight
Check, recheck, and verify! We offer procurement and site monitoring services to carefully oversee implementation of all elements designed by Tobey Design. We work within the project timeline and budget to procure and track all specified FF&E, working closely with Tobey Design's deep network of tried and tested trade suppliers. We closely monitor the execution of all design elements throughout the build out, and work in conjunction with contractors to quickly identify and resolve any challenges, ensuring the project timeline stays on track.
phase 5: install, styling, + beyond
The project comes to life! We ensure thoughtful attention to detail is at the core of the installation, noting any necessary finishing touches for a final punch list. We also offer turn key styling services, such as selection of linens, kitchenware, decorative touches, and more to make your space entirely move-in ready for your arrival. We also keep your project plans, documents, and schedules on file for years to come so we can seamlessly jump back in for any future additions, revamps, or completions of unfinished spaces.
