kitchen, bathroom, + residential interior design
Our approach to residential interior design is entirely client-driven. We work closely with our clients to understand every aspect of their lifestyle and design aesthetic from the start, and we maintain an iterative process throughout the selection and construction phases to ensure a common vision is achieved. Our projects include single room makeovers, additions, intensive renovation and restoration of existing homes, new construction, and everything in between.
oceanfront oasis
Tobey Design was hired by a repeat client to design his oceanfront retirement home. Every inch of this stunning property was custom designed, including a hand-drawn stone octopus mosaic in the master bathroom. The overall design features thoughtfully selected finishes that capture the owner's love of nautical style, high contrast palettes, and the color red. Intricately layered mill work, salvaged antique plumbing fixtures, locally built cabinetry, custom furniture, and bespoke turnkey styling made this a thrilling project for the client and design team alike.
creek side retreat
The design of this home included every detail from the interior to the multi-tiered roofline, which allows every room to capture a view of its stunning creek side location. Eco-friendly architectural elements like natural cedar shingles and fieldstones, solar panels, and garden-centric landscape design celebrate the beauty of coastal Maine. The interior infuses casual comfort with an open concept design ideal for family gatherings and entertaining.
low country cottage
This newly constructed Riverfront home ties together details from Low Country cottages to create a peaceful environment. This is the second home we have done for this family of four. The homeowners were looking for a contemporary take on natural, earthy design for their dream location on the water. To realize their vision, we went with a neutral palette with soft colors and textures and used natural materials like iron, stone, wood, jute, and linen. The result was a refined yet comfortable space with an airy feel.
timber frame chalet
We custom-designed this stunning ski chalet from top to bottom, soup to nuts. The family, two busy executives with three kids, were in need of Tobey Design to provide complete design services. As the third home we have done for this family, we were able to draw from our existing understanding of their lifestyle needs and stylistic preferences to personalize their mountain getaway. With this in mind, we created a space rich with custom mill work and bespoke design that elevates the height of this house to the adjacent Cannon Mountain.
hospitality interior design
Tobey Design is one of New England's premier restaurant and hotel design firms. We have helped dozens of our hospitality partners create the right look and feel for their businesses while considering operational requirements and efficiencies. Whether we're designing a new space for a grand opening, or renovating an existing space with minimal impact to regular business, Tobey Design knows what it takes to run a restaurant and hotel, as well as the right materials to withstand the wear, tear, and love of years to come.
upstairs at massimo's
Massimo's Restaurant in Portsmouth, NH was looking to expand their footprint by taking over the retail space above. Working with DeStefano Architects on connecting the existing downstairs fine dining restaurant with the new street-level bar, we created a warm, cozy cocktail lounge. Design elements like rich millwork, dark wood, historic brick, and a pewter bar top created an upscale yet relaxed atmosphere that is just as inviting in snowy winter months as in lively summer months.
shearwater at stage neck inn
A new modern design for the next generations of family gatherings at this beautiful ocean front resort.
tinos kitchen + bar
Tobey Design has worked with The Galley Hatch Group for fifteen years and and eight projects and counting, working side by side with the family-owned business to create and expand its unique vision. One of the group's newest ventures, Tinos Kitchen + Bar, brought modern, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine to New Hampshire's Seacoast. For the design, we opted for a bright and contemporary feel with cool seaside colors to bring to life a modern coastal vibe that calls upon its namesake, the Greek Island of Tinos.
the pointe on badger's island
The Pointe Restaurant is small but mighty. The new owners wanted to create a casual, intimate, and friendly atmosphere for their scenic waterfront eatery and bar. With an eye towards adaptive reuse and conservation – not to mention, keeping the stunning views of the Portsmouth cityscape as the focus – Tobey Design reused and refaced the existing bar, refaced the walls, and incorporated new contemporary lights to give this old space a fresh, clean look.
commercial interior design
Tobey Design Group has provided design services for a wide variety of commercial industries, including multi-family housing, financial institutions, office buildings, entertainment complexes, retail boutiques, salons and spas, and more. We understand that each commercial project presents its own set of requirements and design considerations, and Tobey Design's extensive commercial design experience across industries and expertise in construction management makes us the ideal partner for the job.
woodmont commons
Woodmont Commons is a newly developed mixed-use urban village comprised of 80 square acres of residential, retail, and commercial space which will be broken into several development phases over a 20 year period. Tobey Design was selected to provide all of the finishes for the residential buildings in phase one, including public spaces and private units. Tobey Design paired custom commercial rugs and durable light fixtures in public areas with plenty of homey touches throughout to balance commercial quality with a residential feel.
madeleine's daughter
We had the pleasure of working for a second time with the owner of this darling bridal boutique, who owns multiple other retail spaces in the area. She trusted Tobey Design to update her boutique and propel her brand forward. We worked closely with the marketing department to integrate the interiors with beautiful marketing materials, and we even included a custom painted mural on the back wall!
wamesit lanes
Wamesit Lanes is a family entertainment center offering bowling, arcade games, virtual golf, restaurant, bars, and more. Tobey Design was hired to create a fun lodge-themed interior that would appeal to all ages. We started with an expansive wood-detailed ceiling in the entryway adorned with large custom light fixtures to offer a high-impact welcome to visitors. Details such as natural stone walls, back lit onyx wall panels, and chunky wood trim around doors and windows (just to name a few!) were added throughout the interior to achieve the feel of a rustic nature lodge. We worked with Gavin & Sullivan Architects and a group of talented subcontractors to create this indoor playland!
backstage salon + spa
Our Backstage Salon & Spa renovation was voted Top 20 in the U.S. by Salon Today Magazine! In general, the unique design challenge of salons is to create an environment that reads as high-fashion and upscale while using super durable finishes that can withstand the chemical and oil-filled environment. This is one of our specialties! Tobey Design drew upon years of commercial design experience and product knowledge to select materials that fit the bill for the space while also feeling luxe and chic.
